Advantages of Having a PDO Threads Training for Medical Spas

Apr 20, 2023

In the past few decades, many options for turning back the signs of aging have become more available. Plastic surgeons have developed many treatments, each with its own distinct set of advantages. Surgical procedures like facelifts tend to be more favored because they deliver dramatic and longer-lasting results. But what if you could get instant and natural-looking results without surgery?

This question is the main leverage of the new treatment on the block: PDO threads. PDO stands for polydioxanone, a safe absorbable suture material that has been used in orthopedic and cardiovascular surgeries for over 30 years. The threads can be inserted anywhere in the face and body, but plastic surgeons have found PDO thread lift placement to work better in diminishing jowls, tightening the jawline, and accentuating the cheeks. PDO thread lift procedures can be performed at your medical spa, but you must first complete a PDO Thread lift training.

What Exactly is a Thread Lift?

PDO threads are absorbable sutures that are placed under the skin in a way that makes the face look more rejuvenated and balanced. A thread lift uses polydioxanone sutures along the neck and face to give the skin a smooth contour. They can be used for many different treatment areas, like redefining the jawline, softening the nasolabial folds, and accentuating the brow projections. Thread procedures are great for those who want to improve their features instantly with minimal downtime.

On average, the outcomes from thread lifting last up to one year. This is a contrast to other cosmetic procedures that need a redo every three to six months. When a doctor puts a PDO thread under the skin, it can help stimulate new collagen, which can make your skin look better over time. It can help make the lips and smile lines look better by adding volume to the face. The threads dissolve within six to eight months. However, a visible smoothing effect on facial wrinkles and lines appears relatively quickly.

PDO Thread Lift Training

The PDO thread lift procedure can only be performed by medically qualified professionals. You can integrate thread face-lifting into your practice by enrolling and getting certified in a PDO thread training course.

First Stage

Certified PDO thread lift training courses usually have blended classes divided into two sections. The first part could be an online course that is primarily theoretical and includes going through the instructional materials about the procedure. They will learn about the history of the treatment and about best practices.

Some institutions offer self-paced learning at this stage. The student must understand the instructional aspect of the procedure and internalize it before proceeding to the second part. However, most institutions usually offer eight hours of instruction for one day in a traditional study setup.

They will also learn about facial anatomy, the process of aging, what causes it, and how it impacts its visibility in the neck and face. They are taught about the different sutures of PDO threads and how they affect signs of aging. They also learn about all the different PDO products and their different outcomes.

The last part of this first stage includes understanding patient selection and how to perform the procedures. They will learn about anesthesia, how it works, and what amounts to use during a procedure. Lastly, they learn about consent and how they can get it from the client.

Hands-On Training

The second stage of thread lift training is the most engaging and requires the student to be present. The student will show up at the institution for the comprehensive, hands-on training on the training date.

During the session, the professional will perform procedures on the patients utilizing smooth and barb PDO threads. The students will then have to complete procedures on their model patients to finish the course. During this stage, they are taught how to plan the procedure and mark the face to know how to get the best results. Under supervised hands on training, students will learn the safety technique for the proper placement of PDO thread sutures. There is also a question-and-answer segment where the students can ask practicing professionals questions about the procedure.

Certification

After completing the various stages of the course, they will understand enough about the procedure to perform it themselves. It is especially recommended for medical professionals who already offer other minimally invasive treatments. After successfully completing the course, they will get a certificate to provide the service in their clinics. Most institutions will offer support and learning tools for their students.
